Pinewood Derby

This weekend I went to Algoma to help Donnie with this Pinewood Derby Car for Boy Scouts. It is always nice to see my kids and very sad when leaving them on Sunday to come back for work on Monday. Donnie is 6 but will be 7 next month. He is a little cutie.

It brings back memories of my boyhood pinewood derby racing days. I was pinewood derby champion 2 years in a row for fastest car. This is thanks to my dad, who built a full sized track in our basement to test many variants of cars against each other to find the best formula for kicking butt. We even invented a technique that was banned the next year (putting pin heads between the body of the car and the tire so that the tire (plastic) would rub against metal instead of wood, with graphite inserted, a deadly speedy combination), among other techniques
