Sea Caves at Cornucopia
Today Jojo and I got back from the Apostle Islands, Wisconsin. We left on Thursday around noon and headed to Gooseberry Falls State Park to camp there for the night. This was the first night that Jojo and I had camped together just the two of us. It was car camping but fun, nonetheless. We got there late and cooked our shishkabobs on the campfire. In the morning , September 2, we went for a hike around the falls and on the Lake Superior hiking trail. We left around 4 and got to Duluth to eat at Fitgers. We made it to Cornucopia, Wisc, to Kathleen and Joyce’s cabin around 10:30 and talked a bit and then went to bed. In the morning, September 3, we took a run in the Valhalla trail which is in the Chequemegon National forest. Jojo and I drove to Bayfield to get our kayak safety certification. We spent some time in Bayfield looking around and then went back to the cabin for a delicious trout and potatoes dinner. September 4 we woke and talked around the wood fire drinking coffee. Later in the day we went for a canoe in the Bark Bay slough and walked along Bark Bay beach and had a picnic there. That night we met Joyce and Kathleen at a restaurant in Bayfield called Wild Rice. The four of us racked up a $300 bill but Kathleen had $200 of gift certificates. The next morning Jojo went for a run while I hiked around the Valhalla trail. I saw much of nature. We went back for lunch and then went along the Superior National Lake Shore trail and saw the mainland sea caves. We also got very close to a bald eagle. That night we cooked our own dinner of white fish and yams and watched Seven Years in Tibet. September 6, we awoke and had breakfast at the coffee shop in Cornucopia. We packed, cleaned and met Joyce to see their house and get cheese at a farm around there. We then drove home already missing that area and wanting to come back and kayak more.
