Coyotes and the Full Moon
Jojo and I got back from Algoma where we watched the full moon come up over Lake Michigan. We watched the (almost) full moon the night before too, while camping at a hike-in campsite at Newport State Park. I picked Jojo up at work on Thursday and then we headed up. The moon was coming up as we got the campfire going. While sitting around the campfire, having wine and eating our dinner, we heard the howls, yips and yelps of two coyote packs, in different directions, in the distance. We imagined they were howling at the moon.
On Friday morning we hiked a bit and then went to Fish Creek to eat at the Blue Horse cafe and have coffee. It was a nice place; we sat overlooking the harbor. That night we went to Algoma and walked around the harbor walk and then drank beer at the Ahnapee Brewing Tap Room. When dusk was finishing we went over to the beach and laid right next to the shore to be able to take in the surf as well as the moon’s glow cusping over the horizon. It was very big and orange and seemed to shrink and whited as it rose.
